This October marks 10 years since BuzzRx and Make-A-Wish started their Prescription Savings That Give Back pilot program with the Make-A-Wish Arizona, Central & Northern Florida, and Nebraska chapters–when someone saves with the free BuzzRx prescription discount card or coupon, BuzzRx donates up to $1 to Make-A-Wish at no cost to the card or coupon holder. In just one year, the program proved successful and expanded to all 60 Make-A-Wish chapters. Since then, BuzzRx has donated over $6.8 million to help grant 650 life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses nationwide, including over 40 in Arizona. Donations stay in the communities in which they are raised to help grant local wishes. One special Scottsdale wish celebration left a lasting impression on wish kid Audrey, her family, and the BuzzRx community.
“It’s not just a moment or a day; it has changed Audrey’s life,” said Audrey’s mom Lisa.
Audrey was 12 years old when her wish was granted in February 2021. Audrey’s nervous system disorder and daily seizures caused by a stroke at birth didn’t stop her from pursuing her interest in fashion. When she learned she was eligible for a wish, Audrey knew exactly what she wanted. “I wish to wear a fancy, poufy dress and have my photos taken with my hair and makeup done just like the models in fashion magazines.” BuzzRx sponsored Audrey’s wish in celebration of 500 wishes granted, and her dream of having a fashion photoshoot came true.
“My daughter is probably one of the strongest people I know. She never complains about anything. Even if she’s having a bad seizure day, she’s like, ‘I got this,’ and it makes you appreciate the life that you have,” said Audrey’s mom, Lisa.
On the day of her wish at the Scottsdale Camelback Resort, BuzzRx surprised her with a sparkly bee necklace, a coffee table book signed by the fashion editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, and a pair of designer sunglasses donated by Ms. Wintour herself. For her photo shoot, Audrey posed wearing three different outfits, including a beautiful blue gown she imagined, had her hair and makeup done by a team of professionals, and had photos taken by a fashion photographer. That special day has stayed with Audrey ever since.
“Not a day goes by that we don’t talk about fashion model Audrey and something fashion-oriented. Even if it’s as simple as getting her dressed, it’s a challenge, but we pretend we are going to a fashion show. This has changed Audrey’s life in the best way, ” Lisa shared. Audrey and her family watch their videos from the wish almost every day. She still loves to get dressed up, shop for outfits, and get “glam.”
