I try to keep it light and positive with my personal social media posts. Of course, I like sharing the news and adventures of my boys and the wise cracks of my hubby. I like to share what we’re up to as a family and I toss in some yoga stuff. Nobody needs to hear me complain and throw out bad vibes. We have enough of that in feeds and on the news. But look, I’m human. I’m not all sunshine and rainbows. So, once a year, inspired by my one of my favorite TV shows, Seinfeld, I go on Facebook and share all the grievances I have with various situations and people who have wronged me in some way. It’s a time to clear the air before Christmas and the start of the New Year. It’s the airing of the grievances.
This annual occurrence has quite unintentionally become a whole thing with my Facebook friends.
They start sending me memes about the Airing of the Grievances, along with messages about how they are looking forward to my posts and that they wait all year for them. You guys, I’m not bragging. My FB friends need more excitement in their feeds, I think. I’m very humbled by the enthusiasm and encouragement I get from these posts. This year, I decided to take it to a larger audience and share some of my grievances here on SMB. I hope you enjoy this in the spirit in which it is intended, which is just to share some ways that we all get riled up, but in a humorous & light hearted way.
I’m pretty sure that all of us that shop at Costco are well-fed individuals. I feel like it’s a safe assumption that we all have access to 3 squares a day and none of us are on the verge of starving to death. So why is it that some people feel the need to practically attack the sample station and take more than one like they’re some kind of wild beast who hasn’t seen a morsel of food for days on end? Once upon a time, I stood with my little boy (who was about two-and-a-half at the time), waiting very patiently for a piece of bacon. There was another man also waiting. The demonstrator had to close her station down and so she put out 3 pieces of bacon and proceeded to close up her station. The man swooped in and grabbed 2 pieces for himself. Ok, fine, sir. As I reached in for the last piece, which I actually had in my fingers, another lady flies in and literally grabbed the bacon out of my hand! Bacon that my little boy waited patiently for. A little boy who hardly ever gets to have samples at Costco because of his food allergy. Oh, did I ever give her a piece of my mind! I literally said, “How does it make you feel to take food away from a child?” We still talk about that lady. We call her The Baconator. I’m still mad at her and that man. I’m hoping that by writing this, I can release her bad vibes away from me. Anyway, people of Costco, take a chill pill and settle down. You’re going to be just fine. This is literally NOT a life and death moment for you. If you’re so hungry, go get yourself a slice of pizza from the food court. I am so over the aggressive behavior, fellow Costco Members. Can you just try to be civilized? Just for today.
The people who load the dishwasher absolutely wrong. How do you live with yourself? How do others live with you? I am married to someone who loads wrong. I know, I know, at least he loads. Not the point. Loading the dishwasher wrong is a mental health problem. You cannot just put dishes in like its a race. It takes time to load and it must be done with care. It must be done with precision. It must be done correctly. There is hope for you. Come, let me show you the way.
Toothpaste blobs are ruining my life. Every time I turn around, there’s a gosh dang toothpaste blob. Why are the people in my home so careless and lacking compassion? Don’t even get me started on their inhumane behavior of squeezing the tube from the middle. I will just pretend that I don’t know them. **steps to the side**
Let’s talk about the guy in the parking lot during the holiday season who was listening to Joy to the World in their car as they prepared to shop for heartfelt gifts but was driving super aggressively to get a parking spot and nearly ran over me & my children to get there. Merry Christmas, jerk face. The light in me sees the light in you. #namaste
Ahh, I feel so much better now! It’s never a good idea to hold things in that are bothering us. We take on that energy as our own and it infects our hearts and spirits like the plague. I am personally very guilty of not speaking up about things because I don’t want to make a fuss or waves. The grievances I’ve shared here are not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but when we keep our thoughts and feelings to ourselves for the sake of keeping peace, we only manage to create chaos. Perhaps as I look forward to the new year, I will set an intention to speak my truth and not bottle it all up only to explode my airing of the grievances when I can no longer keep it all in.
I love your take on things you adoisoul!
