GIVEAWAY | Sweet Tomatoes Gift Card

When it comes to dining out, I have to be completely honest with you- it totally stresses me out. I mean, there is the big question of whether or not to bring the kids… If not who will watch them?? If so how will they do? Will Parker eat anything? Will Piper cry the whole time? Are we going to find ourselves wishing we had just stayed home instead? But then there are the bigger issues that I am always thinking about… What is in my food? Is it fresh? How was it prepared? Is it good for me? Alright, well maybe for those of you who are experienced in this area it’s not really THAT stressful, but it is for me.

I can count on one hand the number of times in the past year we have eaten out at a restaurant. I can also count on one finger the number of stress free, wonderful experiences we have had. That’s right, only one! The restaurant that has won me over: Sweet Tomatoes. No, not a place catered to romantic candle light dinners, or a place focused on kiddos, but a family oriented all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant designed with healthy eating in mind.

I know the words “All-you-can-eat-buffet”don’t generally conjure up images of healthy eating, but they figured it out. All year long Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation restaurants provide their guests with over 45 different vegetarian options {many of which are also vegan} along their 55-foot salad bar and among their soup, pasta, fruit and dessert stations. So now you may be thinking, that’s great but my husband needs his meat (well ladies I am right there with you!!) Guess what? They have non-vegetarian options as well. They also clearly mark what items are vegetarian or vegan AND offer you the nutritional guide available in the restaurant or online. For those of us who like to know what we are putting into our bodies this is such a wonderful service.

But as I was saying, my little family of four went there the other night, and we had a GREAT time. We were all able to pick and choose what we wanted; taking small portions at first to decide what we liked best and then went back for seconds (ok, thirds) on the things we really loved. I don’t know how many of you have toddlers out there, but this was by far the best place for a picky toddler to eat. I mean, where else can they try about 20 different things before deciding what they wanted and not have to pay a fortune? And because you pay before you are seated, when that inevitable toddler meltdown takes place, you don’t have to wait for the check as you are trying to avoid those judgemental stares 🙂

We each had some favorites from the evening; let’s start with Parker’s pick of the night: The Quattro Formaggio Focaccia and the Spicy Garlic Alfredo Pasta (Vegetarian). He wouldn’t touch anything else… well until the handfuls of Jell-O he ate for dessert.

Luke favored the Southern Dill Potato salad (Vegetarian), Sweet Tomato Onion soup (Vegan), and who couldn’t LOVE the Cherry Apple Cobbler. Honestly, he couldn’t get enough of the Sweet Tomato Onion Soup, I have actually been told I need to try and replicate that for him because it’s the best tomato soup he has ever eaten.

I liked pretty much everything I tried (which is saying a LOT- I am super picky). But hands down, my favorites were the Curried Yellow Split Pea soup (Vegetarian) and Joan’s Broccoli Madness.  I just sat there thinking, Why in the world have I never added curry to my split pea soup before? and How in the world did they make a salad that is mostly broccoli taste so good!?
