Another summer is upon us which means that reading programs have begun. School is done and since the kids are usually not interested in books or visiting the library, these programs are an amazing way to incentivize the whole family to read and keep busy. Check out your local library for your specific date and deadlines regarding the summer reading program.
The Arizona Libraries are currently registering for the summer reading program. Tuesday, June 1 – Sunday, August 1, 2021. They offer kids, teens, and adults the opportunity to earn one point for every minute spent reading. This program is for all ages and can earn you additional points by completing challenges all summer long. The challenges can be found on the Summer Reading website and range from reading specific books to watching educational videos.
My toddler has participated in this program since the age of 1 and he absolutely loves it. He’s a book worm so this just adds to the fun. He loves helping me fill out the online reading log and then coloring in the game board. If you’re local and interested in registering visit https://maricopacountyreads.org.
Barnes & Noble offers a summer reading program for grades 1-6. Upon completing the program, your child will be eligible to pick a free book.
Camp Book It! This program allows you to track and reward your kids’ reading from June to August. Once they meet their monthly reading goal, they’ll receive a free one-topping Personal Pizza from Pizza Hut! They share book recommendation and other engaging activities as well.
The Scholastic Summer Reading Promise This program runs from Monday, April 26 to Friday, September 3. Kids can participate in the program where they will be encouraged to read, interact with their favorite characters, play book-based games and activities and much more.
