SeaLife Sea Turtle Rescue Reef Exhibit

Thanks to SeaLife for inviting us!

Our family had the opportunity to visit the brand new SeaLife Sea Turtle Rescue Reef Exhibit, at SeaLife in Tempe, featuring Donna, an Olive Ridley Sea Turtle. We learned all about the threats turtles face and how SeaLife rescues, rehabilitates, and releases sea turtles back into the ocean, as well as ways to sustainably fish and ways to protect turtles.

The SeaLife team has done an incredible job at telling Donna’s story throughout the exhibit. As you walk around the aquarium you’ll find engaging “rescue stamps” of the three rescue sea turtles: Donna, Ziva, and Pancake. Donna was found in 2019 cold-stunned off the coast of Northern California with a shoulder injury. Her injury made swimming difficult making her release impossible as it would be hard for her to survive. Donna required rehabilitation and has found her forever home right here in the valley at SeaLife. Pancake was released back into the Golf of Mexico after six months of rehabilitation at SeaLife. Ziva who can still be found at the aquarium was found in 2010 floating off the coast of Florida with a head injury and a broken shell caused by a boat propeller strike.

We learned so much and had a great experience at the Sea Life aquarium. The exhibit offers so much to see and experience, that both big and small are sure to have a great time while learning. The kids enjoyed having Donna wave at them through the glass. We will defenetly be back to visit our sea life friends.
