I have the fondest childhood memories of the “Schwans Man”!
My neighbor used to use the service and when we were little we couldn’t wait for his friendly knock! There was something about the ice cream that came from that refrigerated truck that just tasted so fantastic. Like HOME! As I got older I must admit, the Schwans Man and all of his joy escaped me and for some time I wasn’t sure if Schwans Food was still available?
Oh it’s available AND BETTER THAN EVER!
Schwans Food was kind enough to provide me with an open invitation to select any items I wanted to create a family dinner, with all the ease of frozen food. When I landed on Schwans.com the same exact feelings of excitement came over me as those that had created such fond memories as a child! Except this time I was doing the picking!
I selected the Bone-In Pork Loin Chops, Thick Sliced Bacon, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Asparagus Spears and lastly, because I couldn’t resist, Mini Donuts (which were described by reviewers like “churros and donuts together”- HEAVEN).
I’ve had an easy pork centered “recipe” for years that my family loves; I use “recipe” in quotations because it’s sort of quasi. I can’t say there is any formal measurements or real direction but somehow a little pinch of this and that works out perfectly every time!
Here’s a quick note about the food from Schwans before we get into what I cooked; the portions are FAR LARGER than those from the grocery store. The prices per product are higher than say a package of pork loin at the grocery store as well but these products are flash frozen keeping the quality, freshness and moisture locked inside. I also LOVED that each piece of pork was individually packaged at freezing. It makes for a super easy “on the go” healthy meal.
SPICY PORK, BACON & ASPARAGUS
Brown Sugar (a few tablespoons)
Siracha Hot Sauce (about 2 tablespoons)
Brown Sugar (about 2 tablespoons)
Butter (about 2 tablespoons)
Salt & Pepper (as much as you like)
Olive Oil (just enough to coat the pan)
First, cook bacon either in a skillet or in the microwave, whichever you prefer. Set aside. Heat olive oil in large skillet; while skillet is heating spice the pork with salt and pepper and/or your favorite tasty rub! Once oil is heated, brown pork on both sides then lower heat to medium low and continue to let pork cook throughout. Follow the easy to prepare directions on both the Schwans Asparagus and Roasted Fingerling Potatoes.
After the pork is cooked, set aside and in the same pan add Butter, Brown Sugar and Siracha Hot Sauce to the skillet on low. Stir to combine and let reduce. Words of advice when cooking with Siracha- a little goes a long way! Start with a small amount and taste while you’re determining how much more to add. Once it’s too spicy it is really tough to bring the heat level back down. This meal is kid approved, with just the right amount of gentle spice!
Plate up your new dinner creation with crumbled bacon and Siracha sauce on top and enjoy!
Make sure you save room for dessert! These Mini Donuts are all that you’d expect and more! Again, follow the easy to prepare instructions on the packaging and DEVOUR!
