Being a Working Mom (Part 2) | You Are Not A Failure

3

This is Part 2 of our series on Being a Working Mom.  If you missed Part 1, check it out here.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

How common is it to feel truly defeated each and every single day as a mom? How easy is it tolet these little thoughts turn into lies and to creep into our minds? How uncontrollable is it to let these little lies turn into full blown negative thoughts and anxiety?

I struggle with all of it. And after my run in with Postpartum Depression after the birth of my second son, I knew it was time for many things to change in my life.

So I start with this.

I really want to start this series with a little note of encouragement. I know firsthand how easy it is to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, beat down and to feel like you are completely failing at this thing called ‘Motherhood’. I know firsthand what it feels like to have a daily To Do List that’s longer than it’s humanly possible and to stand at the kitchen sink crying because all you want to do is just to RUN AWAY from it all.

I get it.

I understand that as a mom, we are doing the hardest job there is. And that it’s exhausting. And not glamourous. And that while we love our kids and our family, we don’t always love IT.

It’s ok. You are normal. You are not a failure.

Being a working mom is hard. There are too many details to keep track of. Too many important things that need to get done. The house is never clean. It’s so easy to feel like you are always sinking, instead of swimming. You can’t ever get ahead. Dinner is always after 8:00. You never complete your To Do list and are pulled in one million directions.

Let me encourage you. I know this is not easy. I know that working full time AND being a full time mom are HARD. It’s exhausting. It’s never ending.  I struggle with these thoughts and feelings every single day. I’ve learned and continuously remind myself to cut myself some slack. I’ve learned to find a balance and create MY path as a mom in ways that are best for me and my family. And not what appears to be working for everyone else.

I’m excited to encourage you through this series and to hopefully instill some inspiration, hope and motivation in all that you are doing as a mom. Your kids love you regardless of all that does or doesn’t get done. It’s about finding balance  and flexibility in your life and in your home that will create true harmony. It’s about not forgetting that you are not just a mom, but a woman who has a family. A woman who has hopes, dreams, desires and individuality. And I love inspiring women to find that in themselves so their children will see it and grow up knowing how much their mom truly, truly rocks.

You are not a failure. And I hope I can encourage you in this thing called motherhood!

  1. Interestingly enough, when I first read the beginning of this post I couldn’t help but think “yes, sometimes I totally feel like that” and I stay at home. So add a full time job on top and yes! I believe you have a lot of stress! But, women are awesome!
