Don’t Forget to Say Thank You

1

Now that the holidays are over, and all the gifts have been opened, it’s time to write your thank you notes! I feel the value of a thank you note has slowly gone away. I never really did them growing up, so it wasn’t instilled in me. It wasn’t until the first time I met my now Mother-in-Law. My husband had to go over to her house after the holidays and each kid had to write a little note on a thank you card to each person that gifted them something that year. After that moment I started collecting thank you notes and have written one for everything that I ever got. While I think that the value of a good old fashioned handwritten thank you note has gone down, I feel like there are so many other “modern day” ways to get a thank you to someone to show your appreciation. Here are a few ideas:

E-cards: There are so many websites where you can find a thank you card that is sent directly to someone’s inbox. You can personalize them, choose your pictures, or just find a perfect message to sign your name under.

Ink Cards: Ink Cards is an app that you can download directly to your phone. They have so many card options from birthday to sympathy and of course thank you cards! I send these a lot to my grandmother who doesn’t have a smart phone and can’t see all the family pictures we take on our phones. You can upload photos from your phone (or choose one of theirs) and Ink Cards will send it directly to the person. It costs under $2 and it personable and fun!

Handwritten: This is my go-to. For one, I love collecting pretty thank you cards and always have them on hand. A good old-fashioned note is so personal and shows that you can take time out of your day to show appreciation. They make very simple ones for kids where they just fill in a few blank spots while the rest of the message is already printed.

As we close this holiday season and celebrate throughout the year with birthdays, interviews, and other holidays remember that taking a few minutes to send a thank you note will always show how much you appreciate what someone does for you. In return, you will feel the appreciation full circle when you receive one as well.

  1. I agree! This is such a great reminder. I used to be so good about having my kids do this, but I’m out of the habit.
