Viral Foot Soak Recipe Put to the Test

0

Do you guys remember that viral post a few years back about soaking your feet in Listerine and white vinegar?  It was all over the internet from Facebook to Pinterest and everywhere in between.  I have always been curious about how well this worked but only just gave it a try this past week.

It was actually my beloved husband who tried it first. Living that flip-flop or barefoot life around the house has not been kind to either of us, but he was worse off than I was. I regularly use a pumice on my feet in the shower but he has never done such a thing. So one evening, while I took our boys out on an outing, without any fanfare about it, he poured himself some vinegar and Listerine into a disposable tin foil roasting pan and soaked his feet for about 30 minutes. You guys, the results were nothing short of astonishing!

When I saw how smooth and soft his feet were, I had to give it a try for myself. No tin foil pan for me, though. I used my HoMedics foot spa filled with the following:

  • 1 cup Listerine (Cool Mint)
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup hot water

Soak your barking dogs (aka your feet) for 20 minutes. Then go to work with your foot file or pumice and be completely amazed at how the dead skin sloughs off.

Warning: Your feet will turn a slight shade of green. My 5 year old said I had Hulk feet, making me the most awesome mom ever. A quick rinse with body wash faded the green even more, but according to the internet, your skin color will be back to its original shade after a day or so. So it’s probably a good idea to not do this foot soak the morning of a special event.

After I soaked, exfoliated and washed, I applied Burt’s Bees Coconut Oil Foot Cream and popped on some socks.

I’m so excited for how soft my heels were. They were pretty cracked and sad since I haven’t had a professional pedicure in over a year. So my review for this viral sensation is that it is definitely a must do.  Pro-tip: Get the generic blue antiseptic mouth wash for a fraction of the cost. This is my favorite foot file.  It looks like a cheese grater, but it works so well. If you’ve had a callus treatment at the nail salon, this thing is no stranger to you.

You’re probably wishing that I would have shared this with you all way-back-when when the nail salons were closed due to the pandemic, but if you’re like me, trying to cut back on the family budget where ever you can, a home pedicure is your thing. Give this foot soak a try and be sure to let me know in the comments how it worked for you!
