Welcome to the Wild West: Exploring Frontier Town

2

Living in Arizona, we all know Spring is the best time to get outside and explore the amazing trails and towns within short distance. Mamas, if you are looking for a super fun day with your kids this spring, head to Cave Creek and explore Frontier Town. We went for our little adventure this week and could not believe this little hidden gem is just twenty minutes north of Scottsdale. Frontier Town is literally in the heart of Cave Creek located at 6245 E Cave Creek Rd, Cave Creek, AZ 85331. This Western themed area which turned 50 in 2019 is full of good eats, mercantile shops, and fun cowboy adventures.

We began our day eating at Local Johnny’s which is an amazing kid and dog friendly restaurant with a large shaded patio. The food gets a huge chef’s kiss from us. Also, side note: Behind Local Johnny’s is a large dirt parking lot which is the perfect place to leave your car so you can walk safely to the actual Frontier Town.

The owners are awesome people who welcome kids and all the things that come with shopping with littles. We found children sized cowboy hats for $4.00 and one of our littles literally came out of his boots excited to fit in with the theme of the day. The owners introduced the boys to their desert tortoises and needless to say, that was a huge hit.

Just a few steps further, we were taken back to the wild West as we found ourselves in a real Western town complete with play structures for kids. The play area consisted of a saloon, house, jail, and other buildings. This is a great area to snack and rest at the picnic tables and possibly complete a full adult sentence. The boys were so content playing “Cowboys and Bad Guys” and the moms were so happy to have a real conversation.

These stores carry all locally made items, so it is a great way to support this community. I can honestly tell you that all of the shop owners were so very welcoming and friendly.

There are live performances of shoot outs and other western themed acts which can be found on their Facebook Page Frontier Town. We, unfortunately, were not there during performance time; but, we hope to go back and catch a show.

My advice would be to try and explore during the week because they did inform me that weekends are very busy. I would highly recommend dressing in comfortable shoes as most of the walking is on dirt. Of course bring water and wear sunscreen. So this spring, gallop your way up north and experience the Wild West with your family in a new and exciting way.
