Feeling Crafty this summer?!

I have been saving small pieces of crayons for awhile with the intention of melting them into new crayons. We finally had enough pieces ready and I thought it would be a fun activity for the summer – but the thought of turning the oven on was dreadful. The house is hot enough. But, luckily a quick Pinterest search led me to a post perfect for our AZ heat. Melt the crayons in the sun! With temperatures well over 100 degrees, there would be no need to turn the oven on.

All you need:

  • crayon pieces
  • muffin tin or silicone mold

All you do

  • Peel paper off of the crayon pieces
  • Break them into small chunks and place in muffin tin or molds
  • Place out in the sun to melt (takes about 45 min-1 hour)
  • Bring inside to cool
  • Pop out and enjoy your new crayons!

We love making rainbow crayons at our house, my kids love to get creative with all of the different colors and they think it’s cool to have crayons in different shapes. Plus, between all the peeling and breaking, this activity took a good chunk of time out of the morning. We are already saving new pieces for melting crayons again soon!

What are some of your fun and easy summer crafts??
