Are These Books on Your Summer Reading List?

Whether your have a few hours of downtime or you are headed to your favorite vacation spot, it’s fun to have a go-to book to throw into your beach bag or purse. Here are 6 books you must put on your summer reading list:

Modern Lovers by Emma Straub: Love and nostalgia follow two couples in this funny, but insightful novel. Straub portrays colorful characters that are authentic and linger with the reader days after you put the book down. People Magazine names it one of summer’s best books and says “Straub serves up a perfect slice of the zeitgeist with this entertaining novel about former college band-mates raising their precocious children while grappling with marital tensions and midlife crises.”

 

Me Before You by JoJo Moyes: Read this book on the beach and then see it in the movie theater! This novel is a page-turner and presents an atypical love story. As the novel unfolds, the reader roots for the couple to persevere and overcome the odds – do they make it? Read the book to find out — it is always fun to compare how the movie  interprets the novel.

 

 

Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty: I cannot wait to curl up with Moriarity’s latest. If you enjoyed Big Little Lies and The Husband’s Secret, I am certain Truly Madly Guilty will also capture your attention. Moriarity creates compelling characters and engaging plot lines. In her recent creation, she takes on universal themes: friendship, marriage, love and parenting.

 

 

 Radio Girls by Sarah-Jane Straford: I adore historical fiction and Radio Girls offers an interesting look into 1926 London. Straford weaves fact and fiction with her protagonist, Maisie Musgrave. The reader follows Maisie as she navigates the BBC, her career and love. She is a likable and relatable character and the novel explores feminism and identity.

 

 

I Almost Forgot About You by Terry McMillan: Georgia Young is a 55-year-old ophthalmologist who goes on a quest to find all the previous loves in her life and tell them what they meant to her. McMillan isn’t afraid to empower Young with a strong identity. If you like novels that are entertaining, but complicated and deal with subjects that aren’t typically discussed, I Almost Forgot About You will capture and keep your attention.

 

 

 The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion: When quirky characters forge a romance, it sets the stage for great dialogue and a memorable narrative. The book begins with a questionnaire and an intersection between an awkward scientist and a “bartender.” This novel is perfect beach reading – entertaining and light – it also contained quick witted humor that kept me laughing!
