Since launching in 2010, Scottsdale Moms Blog has been a wealth of information for local and visiting families. We have had so many contributors share their advice and tips for all things parenting and living life in AZ. After publishing, much of the wonderful information gets lost in the world of archives. We started this series to bring these posts back to life. We will focus on a different theme each month and bring you the best that SMB has on that topic.
Summer is basically here and many families will be heading out of AZ to escape the heat and (hopefully) make some fun family memories. We have had moms travel all over, from Disneyland to up and down the West Coast. They have shared some of their favorite spots and tips for making traveling easier with kids and best places to go. But whether you’re experienced Disneyland travelers like us, OR considering taking your family for the first time, I’ve complied a list here that will HELP YOU. Disneyland can be overwhelming and a ton of work if you aren’t sure what you’re doing. So here’s a good list of tips that I’ve learned in the past.
I’m now a “Zonie” headed to San Diego for a few weeks this summer (yippee!). I thought it would be fun to share some things to do in San Diego with kids that aren’t the usual suspects — the beaches, Sea World, The San Diego Zoo, The Wild Animal Park or Legoland.
Our first and only trip to Hawaii was about two years ago when Luke was 18 months. We wanted to go to HI for our honeymoon but didn’t have the funding or time off to go then. Eight years later, we cashed in our reward miles, packed up the family and enjoyed a week of paradise. It wasn’t the romantic trip we had once upon a time envisioned, but it sure was beautiful, relaxing, and made us want to visit again!
Seattle hosts the exact polar opposite of our weather trends. When we are basking in beautiful weather, they experience rain and cold temps. When we are sweating buckets and baking in the Arizona oven, they have sunny blue skies, green meadows and tall evergreens swaying in natural air conditioning breezes. Do I need to say more?
It was pretty quick into having kids when I realized that the thought of a road trip brought on both feelings of excitement and fear. Excitement to share new adventures with the kids and fear of getting there with sanity intact. Over the years I’ve narrowed down a list of 5 things that I consider a requirement for traveling with kids.
It is ALMOST impossible to take a real “vacation” with children because there’s so much work that comes along with it. A Disney Cruise was the closest I’ve ever come to bridging this gap. Not only did we travel with our children, have a great time as a family, and create a slew of wonderful memories…but my husband and I actually got a chance to relax and enjoy!
