Ahi Mahi: a Fresh Concept

3

Sunday-restaurant

Founded in California, Ahi Mahi brings the coastal fresh fish vibe right to Scottsdale. Ahi Mahi advertises as a “healthy, California-inspired and South East Asian infused cuisine.” The concept is actually really cool. When I found out they opened their first location in Arizona, I had to try them out. I grabbed two of my girlfriends to join me and they were even kind enough to let me taste their food!

Entering the restaurant, you instantly feel the coastal atmosphere they have re-created through the modern plank ceiling and California paraphernalia covering the walls. If only they could simulate that fresh coastal breeze! The open kitchen concept and build your own meal style is similar to The Chipotle model and the price is comparable. However, unlike Chipotle, it’s almost impossible to build an unhealthy meal with Ahi Mahi’s menu options. Ordering is easy, you choose your fish, your flavor, and two sides. Side options include:

Rice
House Salad
Seasonal Veggies
Tomato Beans
Creamed Corn
Grilled Zucchini
Coleslaw
Edamame

Don’t worry, they also offer very delicious Garlic Fries! Click here to see the full menu.

Enough with the sides, let’s talk appetizers and entrees.

We shared the spicy popcorn shrimp. Normally I am not a huge fan of shrimp but they were golden and fried pieces of heaven! They serve the appetizer with the secret recipe, spicy aioli sauce and it is absolutely addicting. I’m pretty sure we scarfed these in less than a minute.

I had the grilled salmon topped with creamy garlic butter and the most delicious spices that they make from scratch, grilled zucchini, and yes, I had the garlic fries! I couldn’t resist! The salmon was absolutely delicious and very, very fresh. The garlic butter is subtle and accented it perfectly. I was really torn between the garlic butter and the Cajun bam seasoning as both sound amazing. I see another trip to Ahi Mahi in the near future…

My girlfriend had the grilled ahi-tuna topped with creamy garlic butter and edamame. She also had the house salad with the house aioli. I’m telling you, the ahi-tuna cut like a super tender steak, was a beautiful pink in the middle, and was ridiculously delicious. The garlic butter was a perfect pairing. What we all couldn’t get over was how good the house aioli sauce on the salad was. It was creamy, yet spicy and full of flavor.

My other girlfriend went super healthy and had the grilled tilapia with the Cajun bam seasoning, grilled zucchini, and grilled veggies. The tilapia was also very fresh and the Cajun bam seasoning really packed a punch. It was the perfect blend of spice and flavor and it made me want to try the spice on everything. The grilled zucchini also comes with a bit of olive oil and seasoned with the house seasoning, so yummy!

The atmosphere was really cool, the food was flavorful but healthy, and although we did stuff our faces, there was no gross food coma afterwards. Ahi Mahi will leave you and your wallet satisfied and feeling good.
