This summer, we have been so fortunate to spend time with friends! We’ve been in town most of the summer, since my daughter Mary Alice made her debut in April.
My kids have been welcomed into friend’s homes for pizza and swimming. These moms welcomed chaos and noise and my kids always came home exhausted and happy. They will have wonderful memories and stories of making up pool games and silly challenges with each other. Those are the best kinds of friends!
As a thank you, I put together a very simple hostess gift basket of ice cream toppings:
- sprinkles
- chocolate sauce
- caramel sauce
- maraschino cherries
- marshmallows
I used a strainer as the gift basket and I printed out a scalloped tag that said “Thankful for sweet friends like you” at avery.com.
I remember the first time I received a hostess gift. I had thrown a baby shower for a friend and I was surprised when she handed me a gift bag when she walked in. She gave me a hug and whispered, “this is for you.” I put it aside and forgot about it until after the party. When I sat down after the party, I put my feet on the coffee table and noticed the gift bag. I opened the bag and it was a Romantic Homes magazine (my favorite), a chocolate bar and a handwritten note thanking me for the day.
I couldn’t believe how thoughtful it was and how special it made me feel! Because of that one gesture, I will forever believe in hostess gifts.
It was an easy way to let those moms know how much I appreciate them adding to my kids summer fun!
If ice cream doesn’t work for your hostess, here are a few other ideas for you!
- house plants or succulents
- soaps
- candles
- magazine subscriptions
- lemonade pitchers
- grilling rub collections
All of these items say, “I see you”, “I appreciate you”, and “Enjoy your summer!”.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be big or costly to be meaningful.
