Frugal Fall Decorating Tips

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… well, almost!

Actually, I have that holiday song in my head because I am so excited to know that in 60 days or less, we who live in the desert will be jumping up and down for joy to see double-digit temps again!

This is the time of decorating in orange, purple, brown, and anything that resembles the autumn season. Just because Scottsdale is known for trendy retail, you don’t need to spend a fortune  making your home feel more festive! There are nice alternatives when it comes to frugal fall decorating.

First Stop: Pinterest!

Most of us have heard of this social media mega site, known the world over for great ideas on every topic imaginable! I always check on Pinterest to see new ideas, photos, and “how-tos” for finding, creating, and displaying your artistic flare!

Second Stop: Dollar Stores

Trust me on this one! If you want to stretch your dollar, take a peek at the local dollar store. They are strategically located in the best shopping areas, right alongside the more expensive stores! You may only find a couple of things worth purchasing, but at least you won’t break the bank! Besides, most of our retail purchases are consumable (and end up in the trash after a few uses), so I know I don’t feel guilty when something breaks or wears out.

Third Stop: Yard Sales

Hey, it’s better than dumpster diving! Well, all kidding aside, you never know that little treasures you may find at a nearby yard sale. And, with the weather cooling off, more and more people will be hosting yard sales to get their organization in place for the winter holidays!

Finally: Check the Local Ads for Weekly Sales.

You can never go wrong with a 40% off coupon to these totally tempting craft stores. These places can lure in even those who are artistically challenged, and you can walk out of there with an armful of goodies! Check out these coupons here!

Until then, embrace the cooler weather that is coming, the crock pot recipes that will be stirring in our kitchens, and the hopeful harvest gatherings of family and friends.

  1. Fall decorating is all about rustic features. I love making furniture/artsy items out of old wooden pallets. If you wash and stain them they can look very neat, especially for the fall. The wooden colors make it cozy.
