I Dare You to Dream

This is a picture of my neighborhood that was taken this fall. Although we are approaching the spring time, it is makes a great backdrop for a lovely walk to ponder and dream

It all began in 2008…

If someone had walked up to me in January 2008 and said, “You are going to be a writer,” I would have chuckled and replied, “I’m sorry, but I think you have me confused with someone else. You see, I am a ‘math and science’ kind of girl.” Well, as life unfolded and I walked by faith through 2008, I did become a writer through blogging. Believe me, I would never have guessed that blogging about my life experiences would lead to a new passion.

From Diapers to Diaries

When I first moved to Scottsdale in May 1998, I had no idea what my future held for me. I had just quit a full time job in southern California to be a stay-at-home mom to my two little boys (ages 2 1/2 and 5 months old). I can remember how lonely I felt those first few months as I transitioned from career girl to at-home mommy. Add in that I moved from a relatively mild climate to a hot desert and I could sum it all up one word: misery!

As I look back on those days I realize now that I was being prepared for something more than changing diapers! I can see that I was being groomed to encourage the next generation of young moms who are currently up to their eyeballs in nursery rhymes!

Ready. Set. Dream!

Take a moment to sit down and breathe. Find a quiet spot in your home

Dare to Dream!

(I like to sit in my walk-in closet), and evaluate your current position. Whether you are a full time mom, a full time employee, a business owner–or all of the aforementioned, take some time for yourself. It’s okay to find some down time to dream!

Write down your short term goals for the next year.

Dream about your long term goals (where you’d like to see yourself in five years).

A peek at “My Dream…”Believe that your dreams will open doors of opportunity that were previously lock or unnoticed.

I’ll share a bit of my heart with you. When I became a mommy, I wanted more than anything to stay at home with my babies. I had to wait more than two years to realize that dream. Then, when I finally accomplished it, I wasn’t so sure I wanted it! I went from having a career, recognition, and self-worth to being home, cleaning, cooking, and changing diapers. But, once I had an attitude check, I started to embrace the idea of being at home with my children! So, what did I do? I started to dream some more! I began to envision having a homestead, eating more from the earth, and teaching and raising my kids “homegrown” style! I started to self-educate. I went back to college online. I read many, many articles about being the best mom I could be. And, guess what? I loved learning more and more about the joy of being home!

Do what YOU love!

I can’t say that being at home is the best situation for every mom out there. But, I am sharing with you because I followed my dream, and this is where it has lead me! So, I encourage you to do what you love, and whatever it is, put all your passion into it. It’s not selfish to be this way, because in the long run, your passion will help others. And, that’s the least selfish of all… when you can help others by living out your dream.
