Scrapbooks for Father’s Day

0

Father’s Day is fast approaching. Have you found something special to give the dads and grandpas in your life? Recently, we made photo books for the kids’ grandparents and great-grandparents. They turned out so well, I had to share. When my girls were little, I labored for hours one special books with paper, hard copied pictures and embellishments. Just 6 years later, they are falling apart. Some even have keepsake pockets in the back now. I love the online scrapbooking and photo books because they are quick, user friendly and come bound to last.

The books included all 6 grandchildren. What’s nice about online projects is siblings can add to the project without having to be near geographically. You can all agree on styles and themes and then create pages reflecting each family. For us, we had 3 pages per grandchild. We wanted the pages to capture who the child is and what they are into at this age.

Each child had a photograph. We included a new shot of the child that hadn’t been seen before. This was fun for the kids because they each got to choose a setting or clothing that is uniquely reflective of their personalities this year. If your immediate family isn’t the only one in the book, be sure to coordinate with each other to have similar compositions in your pictures. For instance, all of our shots are waist high with the child as the predominant figure.

We also added hand prints of the children. The older children did hands because they could position their hands with ease. The babies got footprints because they were more feasible to capture. We did all of the kids in one morning. Once they dried, we scanned them in as jpegs. Since you are scanning, though, you could, again, be apart and still have fluidity.

Lastly, we asked the kids to draw a picture sharing what they love about their grandparent. For the babies, we wrote letters in their voices to the grandparents. We had them done on white paper and told the kids to use lots of different colors. These were also scanned in.

Once we had all of the pieces, it didn’t take long to put it together. It was a special way to honor their grandparents across the miles with something they can keep for years to come.

Have you thought of something great for your dad or husband to honor them next month?
