Top 5 Things to Do in Prescott :: {A Prescott Staycation}

5

Top 5 PrescottIn mid-December, my hubby and I decided we needed to get away for a night, just the two of us.  Funds were limited (I mean, it was December after all) so rather than travel too far away, we decided a staycation was probably the best option for us.

We’d heard good things about the little town of Prescott and decided rather than stay in the Valley, we’d make the 1.5 hr drive northwest and check out some place new.

Before leaving, I consulted my trusty FB Friends and asked for their suggestions when traveling to Prescott. Thanks to some great advice, our trip was planned before we pulled onto the I-17 and much of the suggestions we received on FB make up the below Top 5 list.

If you’re looking to take a day trip or a little staycation to the beautiful little town of Prescott, here are my Top 5 Things to Do in Prescott.

Top 5 Things to Do in Prescott

Prescott

1) Stay at The Motor Lodge

(503 S. Montezuma St.  Prescott, AZ 86303 )

When we travel, sans kids, we always like to stay at more boutique type hotels. (I think I must have overdosed on Holiday Inn Express stays during my career days).  The Motor Lodge was recommended to us from a dear friend and we couldn’t have been happier with her suggestion.  We loved everything about our one-night stay at The Motor Lodge.  From the beer upon arrival (for the hubs of course… remember, I’m 8 mo pregnant), to the fireplace in each room, to the funky decor, to the single and dual bikes available for guests to use for free.  We were even given a little goodie bag of cookies upon checkout.  The details and customer service were exceptional.  We give The Motor Lodge ***** and would highly recommend it to anyone.

(124 South Granite Street, Prescott, AZ )

Besides finding a super cute place to stay, one of my main objectives, on any vacation, is to find the cutest coffee shop the town/city has to offer.  Thankfully Wild Iris came highly recommended from a number of friends and so I didn’t have to look very far for my top coffee shop pick in Prescott.  And if you’re looking for a suggestion of what to order, the vanilla latte and chocolate croissant made my tummy extremely happy.

3) Relax on the Courthouse Lawn

Depending on what time of year you are in Prescott, the Courthouse Lawn is a perfect place for a picnic lunch, afternoon nap or to simply sit and relax for awhile.  We were there in December so it was a bit chilly to be relaxing outside, but as we drove by this beautiful grassy area I could only imagine escaping the heat this summer and doing a day-trip to Prescott where we’d spend plenty of time relaxing on this lawn.

4) Shop at Livy Lou’s

(208 South Montezuma Street, Prescott)

You always have to do a little shopping when you’re on vacation, right?  There are lots of great little shops in Prescott, but my favorite by far is a cute little boutique clothing store called Livy Lou’s.  Totally worth a stop!

5) Eat at the Raven Cafe

(142 North Cortez Street  Prescott, AZ 86301)

And finally you’ll need to eat!  The Raven Cafe came recommended to us from a number of friends.  With their yummy food, live Indie bands and craft brewed beer, we are two of the many happy customers of the Raven Cafe.  So cute and so delicious!  We’d highly recommend stopping into The Raven Cafe for either lunch or dinner during your stay in Prescott.

These are just 5 of our Top 5 picks.  What are we missing?

For all of you Prescott-lovers out there, what suggestions would you add to the above list?

  1. I’m actually from Prescott which is where I’m basing my opinion ;). Go hiking! The outside world up there is truly the beauty. Go to Lynx Lake, Granite Mountain, Thumb Butte, Granite Basin Lake – enjoy the mountains and serenity. Go out to Granite Dells, it’s beautiful. Take a walk around Sharlot Hall Museum and see a true piece of AZ History. Walk through / window shop all the fabulous stores in downtown. They are an antique and art lovers dream. Take a drive up Senator Highway. Go out to Chino Valley and visit the vineyard. If you have extra time when you come home, drive down White Spar Road, through Yarnell, then through Wickenburg. It’s a beautiful and fun drive.

  2. Nice article Wild Iris is one of my favorite stops. Try the granola and yogurt. If you get a chance Watson Lake recreation area (Granite Dells) you will find trails kayaks and other fun stuff to do.

  3. I’ve grown up going to Prescott multiple times a month to visit my grandparents. My favorite things to do were to go to the Charlotte Hall Museum and to walk the square during the art festival! Also camping at Lynx Lake was fantastic and hiking thumb butte!

  4. Stop downtown in the basement of the Old Capitol Building and visit the Meadery. Honey wine is made right here in Prescott. They have food as well. We also have a distillery and brewery in town. The Prescott Brewery is next door and has great food and beer. Lynx Lake Cafe is great for breakfast and has a fantastic view of the lake. We have five lakes, over 50 miles of hiking/biking trails, So many good restaurants downtown, the Palace is historical, as is St Michaels which serves great breakfasts. And if you like Italian, Papas and Rosas are the best in my opinion. Outside of town on Iron Springs Road is the Iron Springs Cafe, in an old building that resembles a train station.
As someone else mentioned the Sharlot Hall Museum is a must. So many things in this town to do and visit, hard to list them all.
