Mommy Quick Tips | Snacks & School Lunches Made Easy

Moms can use all the tips and tricks on how to make to make prepping for snacks and school lunches. I am sharing my tried and true tricks for snacks & school lunches made easy-peasy-lemon-squeasy!

I will absolutely admit that I am not a fan of the time it takes to pack snacks or school lunch…let alone 2, soon to be 3 school lunches. So after the first 3 days of school and spending 30+ minutes getting lunches ready at 6:30am, I decided to come up with an alternate solution.

Check out my new pantry organization unit.  Two Sterite drawers (from Walmart for about $8 each).  If you’re on Pinterest, I’m sure you’ve seen the weekly lunch packing solution of taking items and placing them in a small bin and using that to supply your kids lunches for the week.  Well, this is that concept on steroids.  These drawers will last me a month!  Plus a total BONUS – when my kids ask me for a snack, I can just tell them top or bottom drawer and voila! snack time is done.

Here’s how I’ve organized my snack drawers:

* First, I took out all the “chip” or “cookie” bags and boxes out of the pantry. Then I grabbed a box of Ziplock snack size bags and began filling into child-size portions. Wheat-thins, Cheeze-its, Goldfish, Pringles, Oreos, Chips-a-Hoy, Nilla Wafers, Graham Crackers (not that we actually have all this but you get the idea), and even home-made goodies are all put in the top drawer and are all ready to eat or throw in a lunch box.

* Second, I took all the prepacked food out of the pantry and filled the bottom drawer with all the prepackaged items. Fruit snacks, granola bars, kids Clif bars, Nutri-Grain bars, etc.

* Third, relax! Cause that’s it. Like I said, easy-peasy-lemon-squeasy.

When I grocery shop, I just unload straight into the bins (or snack bags) and it’s maintained just like that. Oh and another BONUS – more pantry space. Here’s to wishing I had done this years ago!

PS: my fruit and veggie drawer – same idea. Small bags of carrots, grapes, blueberries, etc all ready to throw in a lunch.

  1. Great idea Abbi. Where do you put the drawers? Also, as you know, I have a high schooler now and need to put 3 or 4 things in his lunch besides a sandwich. I need more ideas. They are sick of yogurt, fruit, granola bars and chips every day!

    • Jamey – I just put them on the pantry shelf. Easy access for the kids 🙂 Mine didn’t end of fitting in their stacked on top of each other so they are sitting side by side. I honestly don’t know about lunch ideas…we stick to the regular stuff at this house but then again, my girls are just fine eating the same thing each day. At least at this age…they will probably be sick of it by HS for sure though! I say search “school lunches” on Pinterest and see what turns up?

  2. Do the snacks that are not pre packaged go stale? I would love to try this out and save me some time
