Picture me standing next to you yelling the following at the top of my lungs:

COME ON, YOU CAN DO IT!!! GREAT JOB!!!! YOU ARE DOING AWESOME!!! DON’T STOP NOW, YOU’RE ALMOST DONE!!!

I love cheering. In High School, I was voted “Most Spirited” for my passion for encouraging others loudly (and wearing the appropriate colors, like, all the time.) To me, that is the essence of comraderie – cheering, being cheered for, then repeat. That was the biggest (and perhaps only) bummer of graduating from school. No more cheering. No more working together to refine our sport only to discover we’d been exercising unawares. *Sigh* I love cheering.

At Cactus CrossFit, located in Old Town Scottsdale there is lots and lots of cheering.

I started CrossFitting when I was pregnant with our daughter (now 2.5). Most recently, I’ve been thankful to be able to kick some lingering baby weight by getting into the gym 3-4 times per week. But, most importantly, I’ve been able to cheer for my husband and have my husband (and others in the gym) cheer for me!

Go with me here for a minute… How would you like to be cheered for?

“Way to go! You did a great job… emptying the dishwasher!”
“Keep it up! You are almost done… putting the laundry away!”
“Don’t stop now, you are almost done… making dinner!”

See, in this context it sounds almost silly that someone would cheer for anyone doing these things. Yet, we do them everyday over and over again.

But, when I go into the gym, and start the Workout of the Day (or WOD), people start cheering! Ok, not just for me, but everyone cheers for everyone. Yup, it’s awesome.

  1. What a great giveaway! I’d probably do the 6am-7am classes, as I live quite close (Arcadia) and I’d be able to get home before my husband left for work!
