It’s almost turkey time, friends! To get you in the mood for the big day, we polled our contributor team – looking oh so fabulous in their shiny new head shots from Dream Photograph Studio – on their favorite dishes to make and to eat, as well as where they like to shop locally and what football teams they root for.

We are thankful for YOU, our readers, and all that you bring to this community. Enjoy!

(Oh, and please do share your answers to these questions in the comments … come on, it’ll be fun … 🙂 )

Angela

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to MAKE? Smoked Chile Scalloped Sweet Potatoes (I always get compliments on this dish, I think it is the mix of sweet and spicy that wins them over)
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to EAT? Basic mashed potatoes and gravy, it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without both.
What is your go-to local grocery store? Trader Joe’s is my favorite. If they carried Diet Coke, I don’t think I would have to go anywhere else.
What football team do you root for? I am a huge Nebraska fan!

Beth

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to MAKE? Cherry pie – I like making the crust decorative and fancy.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to EAT? Green bean casserole – like the really unhealthy kind with canned beans and fried onions on top.
What is your go-to local grocery store? Safeway at Hayden and Chaparral. They know me by name and let me use the express lane even when I don’t qualify.
What football team do you root for? Always UofA – GO CATS! And I have to root for the Redskins. It just makes life easier!

Cate

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to MAKE? Homemade Mac & Cheese!
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to EAT? Everything.
What is your go-to local grocery store? Trader Joe’s appetizers, flowers, breads! Yes!
What football team do you root for? My hubby grew up in South America.  Football only means soccer in our home so no one is glued to the tube on Turkey day.  If I was pressed, I would go back to my roots: Hail to the Redskins, Fight for all DC!

Jenet

Joy

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to MAKE? Apple pie and only because my husband loves it so much and it gets me major brownie points 🙂
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to EAT? Stuffing. Yes, I know that’s weird, but I love all the carby, fatty, salty, veggie-ness about a good stuffing. Yum.
What is your go-to local grocery store? Sprouts Farmer’s Market (major love)
What football team do you root for? University of TENNESSEE, Go VOLS! Ok and sometimes the Colts b/c of Payton Manning and the Broncos because of Tim Tebow

Kirsten

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to MAKE? Hmmm… I’ve never actually cooked anything for Thanksgiving. Usually, I’m just assigned an appetizer, but this year I’m supposed to make apple pie… which will be the first pie I’ve ever baked!
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to EAT? Is wine a food? Ughh… there is literally NOTHING on a Thanksgiving table I enjoy eating. I love the meaning behind the holiday, but I just can’t stand the food…even the deserts are terrible! (I much prefer Easter, a holiday of Honeybaked ham, jelly beans, and Cadbury Cream eggs! )
What is your go-to local grocery store? I am OBSESSED with the Tatum & Shea Fry’s!
What football team do you root for? Oh gosh, I don’t remember the last time I watched a football game….it may have been in college. Okay, I’m lying, I really wasn’t watching. 🙂

What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to MAKE? I love making pies!!! Especially pumpkin. I think making a crust from scratch has got to be one of the most fulfilling experiences in the world! (Slight exaggeration but it is pretty awesome!)
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish to EAT? To eat…I honestly don’t think I could pick one. But one of my favorites is my husband’s family’s creamed corn recipe. It might call for 8 tablespoons of sugar. It’s still corn right?!
What is your go-to local grocery store? I am a Trader Joe’s fan all the way. So thankful that our state has so many!!!
What football team do you root for? In our house we are Steeler Fans. I married into it…my Father-in-law is from Pittsburgh but boy is it fun to rally around together to cheer for Big Ben and his boys! (See that, I sound official don’t I?!)

So now it’s your turn! Tell us what you love to MAKE and EAT, where you love to SHOP (for groceries), and what football team you ROOT for!

  1. LOVE this post and the shared recipes… especially intrigued by Angelas Smoked Chile Scalloped Sweet Potatoes- might just have to make it! 😉 Happy Thanksgiving ladies!!!

  2. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! I love creating a special menu and executing it. Every other year I alternate between a traditional turkey dinner with gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc, and a non-traditonal one. Two years ago I made a prime rib roast with aujus and horseradish cream, kale salad, cauliflower gratin, savory bread pudding, and cranberry ice cream with orange compote. I also cook ahead on the days leading up so that all I need to do is roast the main dish and warm up the sides on Thanksgiving day.
I like Sprouts, but go to Whole Foods for the cheese selection.
