New Years Eve Makeup Guide

1

Christmas may be over, but the festivities aren’t yet!  With New Years Eve just around the corner there is reason to wear your new holiday duds and perhaps spend some of that Christmas cash on new sparkly makeup. In case you need ideas, this shadow palette and perhaps this one might be coming home with me.

New Years Eve is such a fun time to dress up and put your best face forward.  My beautiful sister Rachael let me use her face to show how you can ring in the New Year right.

Party makeup is nothing more than everyday makeup pumped up a bit. Read here to achieve a flawless everyday look.

I started with Rachael’s eyes (as opposed to her foundation) as I often do if I know I will be going heavier on the shadow. This way I can brush away all the excess shadow that has fallen on her cheeks before applying foundation. On Rachael I primarily used Satin Taupe eyeshadow from MAC. I have yet to see this color look bad on anyone and it has a nice shimmer to it. For eyeliner I used MAC’s Fluidline in black.

As you can see, Rachael got all the eyelashes in the family but I still added about 3 individual false lashes on the outer edges of each lash for a more dramatic effect.

If like me, you haven’t been blessed with an abundance of luscious lashes, fear not. Ardell makes really nice strip lashes for about 5 bucks a pop. The Demi is one of my favorites.

I adhere lashes with Duo eyelash adhesive- I have found it better than any glue that comes with lashes.

Here is my quick how-to guide for applying false lashes:
1. Measure lash against your eye, trim excess from outer edge of false lash.
2. Place a mirror flat on a table- when you apply lash you can look down.
2. Put a dollop of duo adhesive on your knuckle.
3. Drag lash edge through glue.
4. Place lash where your natural lashes meet your lid- its almost like there is a tiny little ridge waiting for falsies.
5. Open eyes and make sure they look right- pull off any glue that’s sticking in the wrong place!

Usually I apply mascara before I put on falsies- but when the mood strikes I apply it afterwards as well.

When going heavy on the eyes, I try to keep the rest of the face toned down and let the eyes get all the attention. I used a neutral lip gloss on Rachael and added a pretty shimmer on her cheeks from a Bobbi Brown shimmer brick. At parties especially, I enjoy having my lips free to talk and eat without having them be the main attraction.

And just like that, Rachael is ready to party.

I hope you all have a healthy and happy New Year!
