The Belly Diaries: A Baby Shower

6

I love how as women we’re able to lavish lots of extra love on our friends through parties.  Men don’t do this sort of thing.  Frankly, men don’t really understand why women put so much effort into parties like baby or wedding showers.  Well… at least my hubby doesn’t (love you A). But there is nothing I love more than planning a party.  Especially when it’s for a dear friend.

The minute I found out that SMB’s Belly Diaries writer, Brittany S, was expecting I (of course) was super excited, asked all of the standard questions (“Was it planned?” “Are you going to find out the sex?”, etc…) and pretty much immediately following these questions I wanted to start planning her shower. Hehe.

Because ya’ll have been following along on her pregnancy journey we thought we’d give you a glimpse into her party…because who doesn’t love a baby shower:)

Like every good party, the event started with the invitation.   (see left)

We decided to do a little chick theme because 1) it’s cute but 2)it’s not too cute 🙂 And we thought it fit well with Britt’s tastes – which is always the goal in planning every shower.  I always start with asking myself or the planning team “What does the mom-to-be love?” And then we go from there.

Stetson Salad

So here’s a very brief rundown of the event:

– We started the shower with a plated luncheon out on the front lawn. We served Stetson Salad (recipe below) and Orange Sweet Tea/Water.

– After lunch we brought everyone inside to grab dessert (a choice of pumpkin cake, chocolate cupcakes or carrot cupcakes).

– While eating dessert everyone took a seat and we all watched the daddy-to-be, Brandon, in a video where we asked him standard daddy questions.  Ex: “What is lansinoh used for?” How do you swaddle a baby?”

– And finally after the video Britt opened all of her fabulous gifts.

Watching the video of daddy-to-be

It really was a beautiful opportunity to join in Britt’s joy as she anticipates the arrival of Baby S.  Britt – we can’t wait to meet the little guy!!

And finally – a note from mama-to-be:

A Word from the Belly Diaries:

The shower was a wonderful time spent with family and friends on a beautiful afternoon. Several guests commented saying, “I think this is the classiest shower I’ve EVER been to!” My three favorite details of the shower were:

1. The theme as is was carried through the invitations, the sign on the door, and the tablescapes!,

2. The absolutely delicious salad (Ladies, you MUST share the recipe!), and

3. The personalized video quiz for Brandon.

So…many, many sincere thanks for all of the thoughtfulness, time, and planning that went into pulling it off! I felt incredibly honored…
