Steph vs. Joy | Our Thanksgiving: Part I (Steph)

3

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just over a week away?!  Where did November go?  Actually – where did this YEAR go?  I just can’t believe it.  Regardless – it’s time to saddle up and get ready for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

In typical Scottsdale Moms Blog fashion we thought we’d give you a taste of what we’re doing to prepare for Turkey Day with another Steph vs. Joy post.

Our Thanksgiving: Part I (Steph)

Believe it or not this will be the very first Thanksgiving that I’M hosting.  I couldn’t be more excited (and scared)!  For those who have been reading our Steph vs. Joy posts you may not be surprised by this statement because of all of the planning that went into Nora’s birthday party (read about that here) but those who are new to SMB – let’s just say I LOVE to host parties.  And Thanksgiving is a party, right?!

Just to give you an idea of all of the things I’m thinking about as I prepare for next Thursday I thought I highlight the my Main 3 Aspects of Hosting Thanksgiving 🙂

1) Guest List. I’m lucky to only be hosting a total of 6 adults next week…two family members will be joining us along with a couple from our condo complex.  We had decided before trick-or-treating that there is no reason why anyone should be alone during Thanksgiving (BTW – if you’re one of them – please let me know, we’d love for you to join our party) so we thought we’d ask all of our neighbors if they had plans.  Turns out not everyone did and we’ve added 2 to our guest list!

I might be biased but I think we have the best guest list!

2) Food – Of course, right?  I’ve been scouring recipe books and magazines for the past month trying to decide what our menu will be on Thanksgiving day.  This is what I know for sure…

Easy Roasted Turkey (Real Simple)

Sausage and Sage Stuffing (Real Simple)

Brie and Chive Biscuits (Real Simple)

Traditional Sweet Potato Casserole (Cooking Light)

Mashed Potatoes (Family Recipe)

Green Beans w/ Almonds and Cranberries

Now I know I still need to add a few things – but you get the idea.

But – I want to hear from YOU!  What recipes would YOU recommend I make?

3) Decor. I LOVE this aspect of hosting a party.  Here’s my checklist: Chargers, Serving Platters, Cloth Napkins, Centerpiece of some sort (flowers, pumpkins, etc), harvest smelling candle and place cards (see pic). I’ll have to take pics – I’m sure it will be AWESOME!  Eek…. I can’t wait.

Even with all of this planning I know I’m in over my head… so I need your help!

Tell me ANYTHING & EVERYTHING you can tell me about hosting Thanksgiving.  Comment below.

  1. Maybe you’ve already thought of this, but ask your guests to bring something. People who attend thanksgiving at someone else’s home want to contribute. Is they aren’t cooks ask them to bring drinks, paper products, ice… Anything that takes a load off of you. For people who are cooks, they love to share great recipes with others. Ask them to bring copies of the recipe they bring. Just make sure you either ask people to bring something specific, or keep a list of what they are bringing so you don’t end up with 4 sweet potato casseroles!

You are going to be a great hostess! Love that you invited your neighbors!
